 Compensation for a flight delay

Has anyone had experience of claiming for flight delays?

In this case, it's long haul and around a 12 hour delay ( caused by the initial flight delay and missing the connection )

I think it could be 600 euros ?

I used resolver.co.uk last year and got 600 euros compensation from British Airways.
Resolver give you templates and guidance free of charge. Highly recommended.

We were due to fly with EasyJet on the last/late flight from Belfast to Edinburgh about a year ago.

Twenty minutes before the flight was due to leave it was cancelled. The airline put us up in a nice 5* hotel but we had to sort alternative travel. We ended up flying out with Flybe the following day.

I'm sure we both got £209 each in compo and that was just Belfast to Edinburgh. You'll be due a fair bit I'd imagine Raymie.

I used one of the companies only a couple years ago too and got a decent pay out too (they got their cut as well though) but I was then heavily delayed on a long haul and they could not help as these companies tend to only cover the EU where the compensation is pretty well defined.

Think it was Qatar or Emirates and it was a trip to Singapore and I got hee haw compo for my 5 hour delay then and 3+ hours on the way back

Template letters on Money Saving Expert, did it myself couple of years back, got a full refund+ and booked a holiday straight away with the cash.

They were originally going to offer vouchers as compensation but relented under pressure.

4 hour delay last year coming home from Prague with Easyjet.

I applied for compensation through their own website and received the money about 1-2 months later, no hassle.

Got paid more than the flight cost and it pretty much covered the flights and the 4 night hotel stay in Prague so was happy to be delayed!

Pal has twice been in 6 hours plus delays, had no problem in getting compensation although some carriers are quicker at paying out than others.

As LA advises, generic template on Martin Lewis website.

The flight has to originate or terminate within EU as far as I know - just another issue Brexit impacts on. Will the government introduce similar once we leave EU ?

Not heard back from KLM. I think my daughter just about made her connection in Kuala Lumpur just now as I've not heard from her. If she didn't, then that would mean a 9 hour delay there
Once she is home, I'm going to town on the bar stewards

The claim process is straightforward and the compensation is per ticket. I got a 2400 Euro claim paid by KLM for a flight cancelled with only 24 hours noticed.

I believe it has to be a EU based carrier for flights coming into to EU but any flight going out no matter where the airline is based are covered by the law.

It has to be something the airline can control. So no compensation for weather or volcano delays. Overbooking or Technical issue with the aircraft are covered.

Raymie - was any part of your daughter's delay due to connecting flights that don't meet the criteria for compensation ?

What Peachtree is flagging up - needs EU departure/arrival element.

KLM flight from GLA to AMS delayed meant she missed her KLM flight to Kuala Lumpur and subsequently, Bali
KLM rerouted her via Hong Kong but 9 hour wait there meant arrival 13 hours after she was due to arrive
All KLMs fault and originating in EU, as far as I can see

Out of interest, if this happened while o. A business trip, who would be due compensation, you or the company?

Long wait at an airport for her. At least getting to Bali is something to remember.

I believe the claim portion would be on the Glasgow to Amsterdam leg. If the arrival to Amsterdam was delayed for more than three hours and KLM's fault.

Hummingbird the claim is made by a passenger and it's the individual who has been inconvenienced so reckon they get the compensation not the business. Not a lawyer though just in an opinion.

As an aside, due to Brexit, thats why easyjet are opening an ofgice in Austria, to remain registered in EU, wonder how it will affect BA?, or affect customers of BA if only registered in UK?

I believe that lot should be on top of the delay compensation. We were put up in a hotel, fed and still got full compensation.

Easyjet had a bit on their website to claim for delays,I'd imagine they have as well.Sounds like they are hoping you don't look and scrabble around for receipts.
